Community mapping is a consultation methodology where people annotate maps with relevant information. There are three distinct types of maps:
- Historical Maps
- Current Maps
- Future Maps
Mapping can:
- help people record and analyse information which is otherwise difficult to do verbally
- is less reliant upon language, spelling or other literacy skills
- gives less confident people a chance to have an equal say
- help to ensure that people’s views are recorded and the geographical detail is retained
